Fantásticas mujeres
Con la tendencia que hay actualmente a adaptar en serie algunos libros de fantasía, en concreto Juego de Tronos, ha salido un debate sobre el público al que va dirigido.
Hace unos años pude disfrutar de la lectura de los 4 libros que hay disponibles ( el mes que viene saldrá el último que sella la saga) y desde entonces no he parado de recomendarlos a mis amistades.
Al salir la adaptación en serie, se desplegó una efectiva campaña de publicidad que lo puso en el punto de mira. Pero también surgieron algunos artículos como éste del prestigioso New York times que puede hacer hervir la sangre a más de uno/a, ya que afirma con total impunidad, que la fantasía es un producto claramente para hombres y que con esta serie se ha buscado atraer al público femenino.
Como mujer, y lectora habitual de fantasía, puedo decir algunas cosas sobre este tema.
Para empezar, en las bases del género fantástico está el poder imaginar criaturas, sociedades o geografías diferentes a la nuestra, en donde se pueden desarrollar otros modos de vida, y diversos códigos de comportamiento que no hemos podido vivir en nuestra época.
La fantasía de Canción de hielo y fuego ( al que pertenece juego de tronos) se asientan en una realidad similar a la medieval, y conscientes de eso, los personajes femeneninos ( Arya, Danaereys, Brienne, Cersei, Asha, etc) han de luchar el doble para hacerse valer en un mundo lleno de hombres. George R.R. Martin, consciente de eso, ha creado unos personajes con mucha fuerza e independencia, que viven situaciones de crítica a esa injusticia. Ha dado una oportunidad a todas esas mujeres que en la edad media sufrían una gran discriminación por el mero hecho de nacer féminas.

Por otra parte, la autora de dicho artículo sigue hirviendo mi sangre, porque asume que todas las mujeres somos iguales de frívolas y acarameladas que ella. Que vamos al cine a ver películas de moda con final feliz, que nuestra meta en la vida es buscar al príncipe azul y vivir del cuento.
Lo peor es que gracias a mujeres como ellas muchos hombres tienen ese concepto de nosotras.
Por suerte, los autores/as saben que hay muchísimas mujeres jugadoras de rol y de videojuegos, mujeres que leen fantasía, y ellos también nos tienen en cuenta en sus personajes. Hay incluso mujeres que hacen series sobre estos temas, como Felicia Day y su fantástica serie friki, The Guild.
Así que pediríaa la "periodista" que escribió ese artículo un poco de perspectiva y como siempre pido, menos generalización, en este caso a la hora de hablar de nosotras.

Fantastic Women
There is a tendency of adapting to the screen famous fantasy books. I will focus on Game of Thrones, because there has been some controversy regarding the public it seems to be focusing on.
A couple of years ago, I enjoyed reading the 4 books of the saga, (the last one is coming out in the next month). Since then, I have always encouraged all my friends to read them.
Before releasing the show, all the media echoed the news and it was hard not to hear from it. However, there were some arcticles like this from the New York times that might get you angry from almost the first parragraph, because the author states that fantasy is a men's product and this tv show is craving for attention from the female audience.
As a woman, and regular fantasy reader, I might have some things to say on the subject.
First of all, the base of the Fantasy genre lays on being able to imagine criatures, societies or a geography, which are all different from our world and lifestile. We can imagine a vast diversity of behaviours and moral codes that we haven't experienced in our age.
The fantasy pictured on Song of Ice and Fire ( to which belongs Game of Thrones) it's based on a similar reality to the medieval ages, and consequently, female characters ( Arya, Danaereys, Brienne, Cersei, Asha, etc) must fight in a lot of ways to be respected in a men's world.
George R.R. Martin aware of that, has created such a powerful characters, who live hard situations as a reflection of the unfair reality they have to face for the mere fact of being born a woman.

On the other hand, that article's author keeps getting me on my nerves, because she also assumes that women are all as shallow and cheesy as she is, that we all go to the movies to watch happy ending romantic stories, whilst dreaming of our prince.
Thanks to women like her, many a man has this concept of us.
Luckily, authors know better than that. There are many role playin women, videogamers, and female fantasy readers. And we're all taking into account when they create their characters. There are even geek women who reflects all this gamers universe, such as Felicia day and her fantastic show The Guild.
So, I would ask that so called " journalist" a bit of perspective, and as I always ask of people, not so much generalization, this time meaning writing about us.
